Van Gogh liked to paint large blossom branches against a blue sky. Almond trees, which bloom early in spring and symbolize new life, were a favorite subject of his. He was inspired by Japanese printmaking and borrowed from it the subjects, bold outlines and positioning of the trees.
'The weather is changeable, often windy and cloudy skies - but the almond trees are beginning to bloom everywhere.'
- Vincent van Gogh to his brother Theo, Arles, about Friday, March 16, 1888
Maium reinterprets this Van Gogh masterpiece, merging his timeless artwork with innovation and contemporary design. Maium and the Van Gogh Museum developed a unique poncho that reveals a hidden print when touched by water.
